What is the Friends of the Old Indian Trail?
The friends of the Old Indian Trail is an organization set up by Woody Unruh for his Senior Project at Glen Lake Schools. Woody did a full restoration of the trail back in the summer of 2013, but unfortunately, with the harsh conditions of Northern Michigan, the markers are already falling into disrepair. This organization is set up with one purpose, to preserve the trail. By pledging to adopt a stone, you are committing to repainting it every year or two, depending on the condition, and along with that, just keeping an eye on the stone to ensure it is still legible and in good condition. UPDATE 6/13/2018: Recently, I have had several people mention to me that Marker 16 has disappeared. After heading out to the site to investigate, I am happy to report that #16 is still there! The DNR has done logging on the road leading up to it in the past few years, so it is no longer possible to drive up to 16. Instead, those wishing to visit 16 will need to hike roughly a half mile to reach the marker. If you have any difficulties or questions about finding Marker 16, please fill out the contact form. Thank you!
